The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, the conducting body for NIMCET 2026, has declared the results for the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) entrance exam held on May 10. Candidates can now download their rank cards from the official NIMCET portal. This year, approximately 45,000 students appeared for the exam, vying for nearly 1,000 seats across 11 participating NITs, including top-tier institutes like NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, and NIT Warangal.\n\nThe result notification includes the qualifying status and the All India Rank (AIR) of the candidates. According to the official statistics, the top rank this year was secured by a student from Hyderabad with a score of 785 out of 1000. The cutoffs for the top three NITs are expected to remain high, similar to the 2025 trends. NIT Jamshedpur has also released the schedule for the centralized online counselling, which is set to commence on June 5, 2026.\n\nThe counselling process will involve four main stages: online registration and choice filling, seat allotment, document verification, and physical reporting. Candidates are required to register on the portal and lock their choices of institutes in order of preference. 'We urge students to be very careful during the choice-filling stage. Once the choices are locked, they cannot be modified in subsequent rounds,' said the Admissions Coordinator at NIT Jamshedpur. A non-refundable registration fee of INR 1,000 is mandatory for all participants.\n\nFor document verification, candidates who are allotted seats must upload scanned copies of their 10th and 12th marksheets, graduation certificates, NIMCET rank card, and category certificates (if applicable). This year, the verification process will be entirely online to facilitate ease of access for students from remote areas. However, final admission will be subject to physical reporting and fee payment at the allotted institute in July.\n\nWith the IT sector seeing a resurgence in demand for skilled software professionals, the MCA degree from an NIT remains one of the most sought-after qualifications in India. Placement records from the previous year showed an average package of INR 12-15 lakhs per annum at top NITs, with companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft participating in the recruitment drives. Candidates who did not secure a high rank are advised to look into other participating universities like HBTU Kanpur and IP University Delhi, which also accept NIMCET scores.
