Over the years, the SSC JHT exam has evolved from a purely pen-and-paper based test to a more modern format. Since 2017, Paper 1 has been transitioned to a Computer Based Test (CBT) to ensure transparency and faster processing. The competition has significantly increased, with the number of applicants rising each year, reflecting the growing interest in government translation services.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to appear for the exam:

• Educational Qualification: Master's degree from a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject, OR Master's degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject.
• Diploma/Certificate: A recognized diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa, or two years of experience in translation work.

The application process is entirely online via the SSC website:

The cut-off marks for SSC JHT 2026 will depend on factors such as the number of vacancies, the difficulty level of the papers, and the number of candidates appearing.
