The full form of CSIR NET is Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test. It is often referred to as CSIR UGC NET as it is conducted jointly with the University Grants Commission.

Over the years, the CSIR NET has evolved significantly:

• Transitioned from a pen-and-paper OMR-based test to a fully Computer Based Test (CBT) in 2019.
• Responsibility for conducting the exam shifted from CSIR to the National Testing Agency (NTA).

• Educational Qualification: M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ BS-4 years/ BE/ B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ MBBS with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD).
• Age Limit (JRF): Maximum 30 years (relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST/Third gender/PwD/Females and 3 years for OBC-NCL).
• Age Limit (Lectureship): There is no upper age limit for applying for Lectureship/Assistant Professor.

The application process is entirely online via the official NTA website:

2. Register using a valid email ID and mobile number.
3. Fill in the personal and educational details in the application form.
4. Upload scanned images of photograph, signature, and required certificates.

The exam is conducted for the following five subjects:
