DOEACC O Level

The DOEACC O Level course, now officially known as the NIELIT O Level, is a foundational level IT professional course conducted by the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT). It is equivalent to a Foundation Level Course in Computer Applications.

This program is highly recognized by the Government of India for recruitment in various departments. The objective of the course is to enable a student to acquire the knowledge pertaining to fundamentals of Information Technology (IT) and to provide a pathway for further specialized studies like the A Level or B Level courses. To be eligible for the O Level course, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

• Students who have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) from a recognized board.
• Students who have passed a one-year ITI certificate course after class 10.
• Candidates with a Diploma (Polytechnic) or higher qualification like Graduation.

Admission is open throughout the year, but examinations are held twice a year. Candidates can apply as 'Direct Candidates' or through 'NIELIT Accredited Institutes'.

The total duration of the O Level course is one year, which is divided into two semesters of six months each. The structure consists of:

• Four Theory Modules: Covering IT tools, Web Designing, Python, and IoT.
• Practical Examinations: Associated with the theory modules.
• Project Work: A compulsory project that must be submitted to receive the final certificate.

The course is primarily administered by NIELIT regional centers and various accredited private institutes. Top centers include:

The fee structure for the O Level course is relatively affordable compared to private diplomas:

• Registration Fee: Rs. 500 (valid for 5 years).
• Examination Fee: Approximately Rs. 1000 per module (inclusive of practicals).
• Project Fee: Rs. 100.

NIELIT offers the Protsahan Puraskar Scheme for SC/ST, Physically Handicapped, and Female candidates who pass the exams in the first attempt and meet income criteria.

Completing the O Level certification opens doors to several entry-level IT roles, especially in the public sector. Common job profiles include:

• Junior Programmer: Assisting in software development and coding.
• Web Designer: Creating and maintaining basic websites.
• IT Lab Assistant: Managing computer labs in schools or colleges.
• Data Entry Operator: Handling large datasets in government offices.
• Office Automation Assistant: Managing digital documentation for businesses.

There is no national-level entrance exam required for the O Level course. Admission is direct based on academic eligibility (10+2 or equivalent). However, some highly sought-after NIELIT regional centers may conduct their own internal screening tests or interviews if the number of applicants exceeds the available seats for their classroom-based training programs.

For the year 2026, the tentative schedule for the two exam cycles is as follows:

• January 2026 Cycle: Registration closes in September 2025; Exams held in mid-January 2026.
• July 2026 Cycle: Registration closes in March 2026; Exams held in mid-July 2026.
• Results: Typically declared 8-10 weeks after the completion of the examination.
