With the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 less than a month away, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is preparing to release the Advance City Intimation Slips for over 24 lakh registered candidates. This document, which precedes the actual admit card, informs students of the city where their examination center will be located, allowing them to make necessary travel and accommodation arrangements in advance. The slip is expected to be available for download on the official NTA website by April 15, 2026.

The NEET UG 2026 examination is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, and will be conducted in a single shift from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM. The test will be held in a pen-and-paper (offline) mode across approximately 500 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. This year has seen a record number of registrations, following the government's announcement of 5,000 additional MBBS seats in newly established medical colleges across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. The competition remains fierce, with students vying for seats in MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and Veterinary programs.

NTA has reiterated the strict protocols that will be followed on the day of the exam. The dress code remains a crucial aspect, with candidates advised to wear light clothes with long sleeves not being permitted. Footwear should be low-heeled, and shoes are generally discouraged. 'We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward malpractice. Biometric attendance, mandatory frisking, and the use of jammers at all centers are standard procedures to ensure a fair examination environment,' stated an NTA spokesperson. Candidates are also reminded that only a few items, such as the admit card, a valid ID proof, and a passport-size photograph, will be allowed inside the hall.

The exam pattern for 2026 follows the established format: 200 questions (out of which 180 must be answered) across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Each subject is divided into two sections—Section A with 35 mandatory questions and Section B with 15 questions, of which 10 can be chosen. The total marks for the exam are 720. Experts suggest that candidates should now focus on solving previous years' question papers and taking full-length mock tests to improve their time management skills.

Following the examination on May 3, the NTA will release the scanned images of OMR sheets and the provisional answer keys by the third week of May. Candidates will have the opportunity to challenge any discrepancies by paying a processing fee per question. The final results and the All India Rank (AIR) list are projected to be announced by the second week of June 2026. This will be followed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and state-level counseling processes for seat allocation in various medical colleges.
