NEET UG 2026 Admit Cards to be Released on April 20; NTA Issues Strict Dress Code and Guidelines
To ensure the sanctity of the examination, the NTA has issued a comprehensive set of guidelines and a strict dress code. Candidates are advised to wear light clothes with half sleeves, as long sleeves are strictly prohibited. The clothing should not have big buttons, brooches, badges, or flowers. Footwear must be low-heeled sandals or slippers; shoes are not allowed inside the examination hall. These measures have been put in place to prevent any form of malpractice or use of hidden electronic communication devices.
Furthermore, the NTA has introduced a mandatory 'Pre-Exam Verification' process this year. Candidates must upload a fresh postcard-sized photograph on the admit card and get it signed by their parent or guardian before arriving at the center. The use of biometric attendance, including thumbprints and facial recognition, will be mandatory at all centers. 'We are committed to a transparent and fair testing environment,' said a senior NTA official. 'Any candidate found violating the protocols or attempting to use unfair means will be debarred for life from all NTA-conducted exams.'
Medical aspirants are also keeping a close eye on the seat matrix for 2026. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has recently approved the addition of 4,500 new MBBS seats across various government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This increase in the seat pool is expected to slightly lower the cut-off marks required for admission to government institutions. However, competition remains fierce, particularly for top-tier colleges like AIIMS New Delhi and JIPMER Puducherry.
As the exam date nears, students are encouraged to focus on the NCERT Biology, Physics, and Chemistry textbooks, which remain the primary source for the NEET syllabus. Mock tests conducted by the NTA on their 'National Test Abhyas' app are also recommended for students to get accustomed to the OMR-based testing format. Candidates must carry their admit card, a valid photo ID, and a passport-size photograph to the exam center. No other items, including stationery, water bottles (unless transparent), or electronic items, will be permitted.
