IIT Kanpur has announced that the registration for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 will commence on April 27, 2026. This follows the recent declaration of the JEE Main Session 2 results, where the cutoff for various categories was established. Only those candidates who have secured a rank within the top 2,50,000 in the JEE Main (Paper 1) are eligible to appear for the Advanced exam, which is the gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

The registration process will be entirely online and will remain open until May 4, 2026. Candidates must upload several documents, including their Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and a recent photograph. The registration fee for the general category is set at INR 3,200, while female candidates and those from reserved categories will benefit from a subsidized fee of INR 1,600. Payments can be made via net banking, credit card, or debit card.

JEE Advanced 2026 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The exam consists of two mandatory papers—Paper 1 and Paper 2—both of which will be held on the same day in three-hour shifts. The exam will be conducted in a Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. IIT Kanpur has released a mock test link on the official website to help students familiarize themselves with the digital interface and the types of questions, which often include multiple-choice, multiple-correct, and numerical-entry formats.

Prof. Sanjay Mittal, the organizing chairperson, highlighted that the difficulty level of JEE Advanced remains high to test the analytical and problem-solving skills of students. 'We recommend that students focus on conceptual clarity rather than rote learning. The questions are designed to challenge their understanding of fundamental principles in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics,' he stated. This year, there are no major changes to the syllabus, but students are advised to check the detailed information brochure for specific weightage details.

Following the exam, the provisional answer keys are expected to be released by June 1, with the final results and the All India Ranks (AIR) likely to be announced by mid-June. This will be followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling process, where students will fill their preferences for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Career counselors suggest that students should start researching different IIT campuses and branches now to make informed choices during the counseling phase.
