JEE Advanced 2026 Registration Opens Today: Eligibility Criteria and Important Dates
The JEE Advanced 2026 is scheduled to be held on May 24, 2026. The exam consists of two mandatory papers—Paper 1 and Paper 2—both of which must be attempted by the candidate. Each paper will be of three hours' duration. The exam will be conducted in a fully computer-based test (CBT) mode. Candidates must ensure that they meet the 'Two Attempts in Two Consecutive Years' rule, which remains a cornerstone of the IIT admission policy.
During the registration process, candidates are required to upload several documents, including their Class 10 and Class 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and a scanned copy of their signature and photograph. The application fee for General category male candidates is ₹3,200, while female candidates and those from reserved categories are eligible for a concessional fee of ₹1,600. Payments can be made via net banking, credit cards, or UPI.
Prof. Rajesh Kumar, the Organizing Chairperson from IIT Delhi, mentioned that the syllabus for 2026 remains consistent with the revised 2023 curriculum. 'We aim to test the analytical and problem-solving skills of the students rather than rote learning. The questions are designed to challenge the fundamental understanding of concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics,' he said. He also advised students to carefully select their choice of exam cities, as no changes will be entertained after the registration deadline.
For the first time, JEE Advanced 2026 will see an increased seat intake for the newly introduced 'Interdisciplinary Sciences' programs across several IITs. This move is part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages multi-disciplinary learning. The counseling process, managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), is expected to begin in the third week of June, immediately following the declaration of the JEE Advanced results on June 14, 2026.
