JEE Advanced 2026: Registration for IIT Entrance to Begin on April 21; IIT Delhi Issues Guidelines
According to the official notification, the application process will remain open until April 30, 2026, with the fee payment window closing on May 1. Candidates are advised to keep their Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and JEE Main scorecards ready for the upload process. IIT Delhi has emphasized that no extensions will be granted for the registration period, urging students to complete the formalities well in advance to avoid last-minute technical glitches on the official portal, jeeadv.ac.in.
The examination is scheduled to take place on May 24, 2026. It will consist of two mandatory papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2, both held in computer-based test (CBT) mode. Each paper will be of three hours' duration. The exam will test candidates' depth of knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, focusing on conceptual clarity and analytical thinking. This year, there have been minor adjustments to the marking scheme, with a slightly higher weightage given to integer-type questions in the Mathematics section, as per the brochure released earlier this year.
Experts suggest that the competition this year will be particularly intense, given the record-breaking number of registrations for JEE Main. 'The difficulty level of JEE Advanced remains consistent, but the psychological pressure increases with the rising number of participants,' says Dr. Rajesh Iyer, a veteran educator. He advises students to focus on solving previous years' question papers and taking full-length mock tests to build stamina for the six-hour exam day. IIT Delhi has also set up help desks in various zones to assist candidates with registration queries.
Following the examination, the provisional answer keys are expected to be released by June 2, with the final results and the All India Ranks (AIR) likely to be announced by the second week of June. This will be followed by the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process, where students will select their preferred IITs and engineering branches based on their ranks. Students are encouraged to monitor the official website daily for any further updates regarding exam center allocations and admit card downloads.
