JEE Advanced 2026: Registration Deadline Extended to May 5; IIT Delhi Issues Important Guidelines for Candidates

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the organizing body for the JEE Advanced 2026, has announced a two-day extension for the registration process. Eligible candidates who qualified through the JEE Main 2026 can now submit their applications until 5:00 PM on May 5, 2026. The decision comes after several representations were made by candidates regarding server slow-downs and payment gateway failures experienced on the original deadline date. This extension also applies to the payment of the registration fee, which can now be completed until May 6.
Only the top 2,50,000 qualifiers of the JEE Main 2026 are eligible to sit for the JEE Advanced. This year, the competition for the approximately 17,500 seats across the 23 IITs is expected to be the most intense in recent history. The registration portal requires candidates to upload several documents, including Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and an undertaking regarding the year of passing the qualifying exam. IIT Delhi has emphasized that no further extensions will be granted, and students must ensure that their documents are in the prescribed format to avoid rejection.
'We noticed a surge in traffic which caused some latency issues for students in regions with lower internet bandwidth,' a spokesperson from the JEE Advanced cell stated. 'The extension is a one-time measure to ensure that no deserving candidate is left out due to technical hurdles.' The JEE Advanced 2026 examination is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The exam consists of two mandatory papers—Paper 1 and Paper 2—both of which are held on the same day in three-hour shifts. The computer-based test will evaluate students on their deep understanding of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Candidates are also advised to check the updated 'Information Brochure' for specific changes in the syllabus. While the core topics remain the same, there has been a slight shift in the weightage given to environmental chemistry and computational physics, reflecting the evolving nature of engineering education. Admit cards for the registered candidates will be available for download starting May 15. The admit card will contain the specific exam center details, reporting time, and the mandatory COVID-19 safety protocols that continue to be observed at large-scale testing centers.
Preparation strategies for the final weeks are currently the focus of aspirants. Experts suggest focusing on solving previous years' 'multiple-correct' and 'integer-type' questions, as these often carry the highest negative marking risks. Following the exam on May 24, the candidate response sheets will be released on June 1, followed by the provisional answer keys on June 8. The final results and the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling schedule are expected to be announced by the second week of June, initiating the complex process of branch and institute selection for the next generation of Indian engineers.
