IIM Admission 2026: New 'Sustainability Management' Programme Launched at IIM Ahmedabad
The curriculum of the PGP-SM has been developed in consultation with global sustainability experts and industry leaders. It covers a wide range of topics, including climate change economics, circular economy, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable supply chain management. According to the Director of IIMA, the programme aims to bridge the gap between traditional management practices and the urgent need for sustainable business models. 'The corporate world is evolving, and there is a massive demand for professionals who understand that profitability and sustainability must go hand in hand,' the Director noted.
Eligibility for the programme includes a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks. While CAT scores are the primary shortlisting criteria, the institute has clarified that it will also consider professional experience and academic diversity. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a rigorous selection process involving a Writing Ability Test (WAT) and a Personal Interview (PI). The institute has also reserved seats as per government mandates for various categories.
Industry experts have welcomed this move, noting that India is becoming a hub for green energy and sustainable technology. 'Having an IIM-backed qualification in sustainability will give Indian graduates a significant edge in the global job market,' said Meera Nair, a senior HR consultant at a top multinational firm. Companies in sectors like renewable energy, consulting, and manufacturing are expected to be the primary recruiters for this new batch of students.
Applications for the PGP-SM are currently open on the IIMA website and will close on May 15, 2026. Prospective students are required to submit a statement of purpose (SOP) outlining their interest in the field of sustainability. The institute also plans to offer several scholarships to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to ensure that the programme is accessible to a diverse range of talent. This move is seen as a significant step in diversifying the management education landscape in India.
