The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the results for the verification of marks and re-evaluation for the Class 12 Senior Secondary Examination 2026. According to the data released by the board's headquarters in New Delhi, nearly 85,000 students applied for mark verification this year. Out of these, approximately 12,750 students saw a change in their final scores, representing a 15% increase in corrections compared to the 2025 cycle. The majority of these changes were reported in Mathematics, Physics, and Accountancy, where even a single-mark difference can significantly impact university admissions.

Board officials have attributed the high number of applications to the increasing pressure of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Although CUET scores are the primary criteria for central university admissions, Class 12 marks still serve as a crucial tie-breaker and are required for eligibility in various professional courses. 'The board takes every application seriously. Our multi-tier evaluation system is designed to minimize errors, but when they occur, the re-evaluation process ensures justice for the student,' said Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Controller of Examinations. He added that the board is looking into digitizing the initial evaluation process further to eliminate manual totaling errors.

For many students, the revised marks have come as a massive relief. Sneha Kulkarni, a student from Pune, saw her Economics score jump from 88 to 96 after re-evaluation. 'I was confident in my performance, and this correction now allows me to meet the eligibility criteria for the Economics Honors program at Delhi University,' she said. However, the delay in re-evaluation results has caused anxiety for some, as many private universities have already closed their first round of admissions. The board has assured that revised digital mark sheets will be available on DigiLocker within 48 hours.

Looking ahead, the CBSE is planning to introduce a 'Supplementary Exam' in July 2026 for students who wish to improve their performance in up to two subjects, regardless of whether they passed or failed. This is part of the board's effort to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning. The registration for these supplementary exams is set to begin on June 30, 2026. Teachers and parents have welcomed this move, noting that it reduces the 'all-or-nothing' pressure of the main March examinations.
