The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to announce the results for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by the second week of May 2026. According to senior officials within the board, the evaluation process for over 35 lakh students is nearing completion. The answer sheets from across 8,000 centers in India and abroad have been digitized and uploaded to the central server for final processing.

Once the results are finalized, they will be hosted on the official CBSE results portal. In addition to the website, students can access their digital marksheets, passing certificates, and migration certificates through the DigiLocker platform. The board has already issued instructions to schools to ensure that student data on the DigiLocker portal is updated and that students have their six-digit security pins to access their accounts on result day.

This year, the CBSE has introduced a more comprehensive internal assessment weightage for several subjects, aiming to move away from a single-exam evaluation model. The Class 12 results will be particularly significant for students appearing for university entrance exams like CUET-UG, as many institutions still consider board percentages for tie-breaking scenarios or basic eligibility. For Class 10 students, the results will determine their stream selection for the senior secondary level.

In a bid to reduce academic pressure, the CBSE has decided not to release an official merit list or award divisions like 'First Class' or 'Distinction.' Instead, the board will provide the subject-wise marks and the overall percentage. This policy change, introduced in recent years, aims to discourage unhealthy competition among students. However, the board will continue to issue merit certificates to the top 0.1% of students in each subject to recognize exceptional performance.

The board has also announced that the verification and re-evaluation process will begin within three days of the result declaration. Students who are unsatisfied with their marks can apply for a photocopy of their evaluated answer books or request a re-totaling of marks through the online portal. The dates for the compartment examinations, now referred to as 'Supplementary Exams,' will also be notified shortly after the main results are out, giving students a second chance to improve their performance in the same academic year.

To support students during the high-stress period of result announcements, the CBSE has activated its annual psychological counseling helpline. Students and parents can dial the toll-free number to speak with trained counselors and psychologists. The board emphasizes that while academic results are important, they do not define a student's entire future, and various career paths remain open regardless of the scores achieved.
