About HPBOSE
The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) is an agency of the Government of Himachal Pradesh responsible for prescribing courses of instructions, textbooks, and conducting examinations for secondary school students in the state. Headquartered in Dharamshala, the board is the primary educational authority for school-level education in Himachal Pradesh.
Currently, the Board conducts examinations for 10th, 10+2, J.B.T and T.T.C. As many as 5 lakh candidates annually appear in the examinations conducted by the Board. For more information, visit the official HPBOSE website.
HPBOSE - History & Background
HPBOSE was established in 1969 as per Himachal Pradesh Act No. 14 of 1968. Initially, the headquarters were located in Shimla, but they were later shifted to Dharamshala in January 1983. The Board started with a staff of 34 officials which has now increased significantly to manage the educational needs of the mountainous state.
The Board has set up 26 Regional Book Depots across the state to ensure the easy availability of textbooks to students even in the most remote areas of the Himalayas.
Affiliated Schools & States Under HPBOSE
HPBOSE has jurisdiction over the entire state of Himachal Pradesh. Currently, more than 8,000 schools are affiliated with the Board. These include:
- Government Schools managed by the HP Education Department.
- Private Schools following the HPBOSE curriculum.

HPBOSE Class 10 Exam - Pattern, Syllabus & Grading
The Class 10 (Matriculation) examination is a crucial milestone for students in Himachal Pradesh. The HPBOSE Class 10 Syllabus covers subjects including:
- Hindi (First Language)
- English (Second Language)
- Mathematics
- Science & Technology
- Social Science
- Sanskrit/Urdu/Punjabi/Tamil/Telugu (Third Language)
- Elective Subjects (Art, Music, Home Science, etc.)
The exam pattern typically involves 85 marks for theory and 15 marks for Internal Assessment/Practical work. Students must score a minimum of 33% in each subject to be declared pass.
HPBOSE Class 12 Exam - Pattern, Syllabus & Grading
The Class 12 (Senior Secondary) examinations are conducted for three main streams: Science, Commerce, and Arts. The board provides a comprehensive set of model papers to help students understand the marking scheme.

Like Class 10, the passing criteria remains 33% aggregate and 33% in individual subjects (theory and practical separately where applicable).
HPBOSE 2026 Exam Dates & Schedule
The HPBOSE 2026 Annual Examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 are expected to be conducted in March 2026. The board usually releases the tentative date sheet in December or January.
- Practical Exams: Likely to be held in February 2026.
- Theory Exams: Expected to start in the first week of March 2026.
- Timing: Generally held in two shifts (Morning and Evening).

HPBOSE Eligibility & Registration Process
To appear for the HPBOSE exams, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Regular students must have completed the required attendance in an affiliated school.
- Private candidates must register through the Himachal Pradesh State Open School (HPSOS).
- Students must have passed the previous grade (9th for Matric, 11th for Plus Two) from a recognized board.
Registration is usually handled by the respective schools through the HPBOSE School Login portal. Private students can apply directly through the official website during the registration window.
HPBOSE Results & Passing Criteria
The HPBOSE Results 2026 are expected to be announced in May or June 2026. Results can be accessed at the Official Results Portal by entering the student's Roll Number.
Passing Criteria:
- A student must secure at least 33% marks in each subject.
- In subjects with practicals, students must pass theory and practical exams separately.
- Grace marks may be awarded as per the Board's prevailing policy for borderline cases.
