NTA Announces Preliminary Dates for JEE Main 2027; Registration to Begin in November

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the preliminary schedule for the JEE Main 2027 examinations, providing much-needed clarity for millions of engineering aspirants across the country. According to the official notification released late yesterday, the first session of the entrance exam is slated to take place in the third week of January 2027, while the second session is scheduled for April 2027. This dual-session format, which has become a staple of the Indian engineering entrance landscape, allows students to improve their scores without waiting for an entire academic year.
Registration for the January session is expected to commence in the first week of November 2026. Students will have approximately one month to complete their applications on the official NTA portal. The agency has emphasized the importance of having a valid Aadhaar card and ensuring that all personal details match the Class 10 certificate to avoid discrepancies during the verification process. Director-General of NTA, Dr. Vineet Joshi, stated that the agency is working to ensure a seamless digital experience for applicants, incorporating advanced AI-based proctoring for the computer-based tests.
The syllabus for the 2027 exams remains largely unchanged from the previous year, focusing on the core concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from the NCERT curriculum. However, there is a slight modification in the section B of the paper, where students will now have to attempt five out of ten numerical value questions with no negative marking, a move intended to reduce exam stress. Experts suggest that students should focus on completing their syllabus by mid-December to allow for at least one month of intensive revision and mock tests.
In addition to the exam dates, the NTA has also updated the list of examination centers, adding 15 new cities in rural areas of Bihar, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh to make the exam more accessible. This expansion is part of the government's 'Education for All' initiative, ensuring that students from remote areas do not have to travel long distances to appear for the prestigious exam. Coaching institutes in Kota and Hyderabad have already begun adjusting their crash course schedules to align with these newly announced dates.
