NIMCET 2026: Spot Round Admission Schedule Released for Vacant NIT MCA Seats

NIT Jamshedpur has announced the commencement of the 'Spot Round' or the 'Special Vacancy Round' for NIMCET 2026. This round is the final opportunity for candidates seeking admission into the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programs at the NITs, IIIT Bhopal, and HBTU Kanpur. As of today, August 26, 2026, the vacancy list shows that while the top-tier NITs like Trichy and Surathkal are nearly full, there are significant openings in NIT Agartala, NIT Raipur, and NIT Kurukshetra.
Rohan Gupta, the admission coordinator, clarified that the Spot Round is open to all candidates who qualified in the NIMCET 2026 exam but have not yet secured a seat, or those who wish to upgrade their current allotment. 'This is a physical reporting round for some institutes, while others are conducting it online. Candidates must check the specific requirements for the institute they are targeting,' Gupta said. A non-refundable participation fee of ₹10,000 is required to enter this round, which will be adjusted against the tuition fee upon admission.
The surge in interest for MCA programs this year is linked to the recovery of the IT sector and the high placement packages offered for roles in Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity. Statistics from the previous rounds show that the average package for MCA graduates at top NITs has crossed ₹15 LPA, making it a viable alternative to M.Tech for many science graduates.
Candidates participating in the spot round must upload their updated documents by August 28, and the seat allotment result will be declared on August 30, 2026. Once a seat is allotted in this round, the candidate must accept it, as there will be no further opportunities for withdrawal or refund. The academic session for the new batch is scheduled to begin in the second week of September, with orientation programs already being planned by the respective departments.
