NIMCET 2026 Results Declared: NIT Jamshedpur Announces Merit List and Counseling Schedule

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, the coordinating body for NIMCET 2026, has officially declared the results for the entrance examination conducted earlier this month. Thousands of aspirants who appeared for the exam on June 7, 2026, can now access their scorecards by logging into the official NIMCET website using their registration credentials. This year, the examination saw a record turnout of approximately 45,000 candidates competing for seats in the prestigious Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programs across participating NITs and other premier institutes.
According to the official notification, the merit list has been prepared based on the marks obtained in the mathematics, analytical ability, computer awareness, and general English sections. The toppers' list indicates a significant improvement in the average score compared to the previous year, suggesting a higher cutoff for the top-tier institutes like NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, and NIT Warangal. Candidates are advised to download and print their rank cards, as these will be mandatory documents during the physical verification process.
The counseling process is scheduled to commence on June 22, 2026. The first phase will involve online registration and choice filling, where candidates must prioritize their preferred institutes. NIT Jamshedpur has emphasized that the seat allotment will be strictly based on the All India Rank (AIR) and the availability of seats in the respective categories. There will be three main rounds of allotment followed by a special spot round if vacancies persist. Students must be prepared with their digital documents for the online upload phase to avoid last-minute technical glitches.
Education experts suggest that the rise in competition for NIMCET is a reflection of the booming IT sector in India and the increasing demand for specialized software professionals. 'The MCA degree from an NIT is often viewed on par with an M.Tech in Computer Science, providing students with excellent placement opportunities in global tech giants,' says Dr. Rajesh Iyer, a career counselor. He advises students with ranks between 500 and 1500 to carefully research the newer NITs and IIITs that have recently started offering MCA programs, as they also provide robust infrastructure and faculty support.
For those who did not secure a high rank, several self-financed universities and state colleges also accept NIMCET scores for their lateral entry or regular MCA admissions. The helpdesk for NIMCET 2026 will remain active until the conclusion of the admission cycle in late July. Candidates are encouraged to check the official website daily for updates regarding seat matrix changes or modifications in the counseling timeline.
