In a significant update for Master of Computer Applications (MCA) aspirants, NIT Jamshedpur, the coordinating institute for NIMCET 2026, has announced an extension of the registration deadline. Originally set to conclude on April 10, the application window will now remain open until 5:00 PM on April 20, 2026. The decision was made following numerous representations from students regarding technical difficulties on the registration portal and delays in obtaining necessary documents from their respective universities.

NIMCET is the gateway for admission into the MCA programs offered by participating NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli, and Warangal. Admission is highly competitive, as these institutes are considered the premier destinations for computer application studies in India. The eligibility criteria require candidates to have a B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), BCA, or BIT degree with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) or a B.E./B.Tech degree from a recognized university.

The NIMCET 2026 entrance exam is scheduled to take place on June 8, 2026. The test consists of 120 multiple-choice questions divided into four sections: Mathematics (50 questions), Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning (40 questions), Computer Awareness (10 questions), and General English (20 questions). Notably, the Mathematics section carries the highest weightage, often acting as the deciding factor in the final merit list. The marking scheme includes a positive score of 4 for each correct answer and a negative score of 1 for each incorrect response.

Following the closure of the extended registration window, a brief 'Correction Window' will be provided from April 22 to April 24, allowing candidates to rectify minor errors in their applications, such as photograph uploads or signature clarity. However, changes to primary data like name, category, and exam center choices will not be permitted. Admit cards are expected to be available for download from the last week of May.

Academic counselors suggest that the extension provides a golden opportunity for students to review their preparation strategies. 'With the extra ten days, students should ensure their documentation is perfect and then pivot entirely to solving mock tests. The NIMCET is as much about speed as it is about accuracy, especially in the Mathematics section,' says Dr. Vikram Singh, a computer science educator. Results for the entrance test are likely to be declared by the end of June, followed by three rounds of online counseling and a final spot round for vacant seats.
