JEE Main 2027: NTA Set to Open Registration in November; New Exam Centers Added in Rural Districts

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially signaled the commencement of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2027 cycle with a preliminary notification released today, September 15, 2026. According to the official communiqué, the registration portal for the January session is expected to go live in the first week of November. A major highlight of this year's announcement is the inclusion of 45 new examination centers across Tier-3 and Tier-4 towns in states like Bihar, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. This move is part of the Ministry of Education's 'Education for All' initiative, aimed at reducing the travel burden on students from remote areas.
Dr. Arvind Subramanian, a senior consultant at the NTA, stated that the agency has upgraded its digital infrastructure to handle the anticipated surge in applicants, which is expected to cross 12.5 lakh this year. The exam will continue to be held in 13 regional languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, and Marathi, to ensure that language does not remain a barrier for talented students from state boards. The syllabus remains largely unchanged from the 2026 session, focusing on the core concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as outlined in the NCERT curriculum. However, there is a renewed emphasis on application-based questions in the Mathematics section, a trend that has been observed over the last two years.
Students are advised to keep their category certificates and Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers ready for the seamless registration process. The NTA has also introduced an AI-based photo verification system this year to curb impersonation and ensure the integrity of the examination. Educational experts suggest that aspirants should utilize the next two months to consolidate their Class 11 syllabus before the Session 1 dates are announced. Mock tests on the official NTA 'Abhyas' app have also been updated with new patterns reflecting the 2026 difficulty levels.
For the first time, the NTA is also partnering with local government schools to set up 'Practice Centers' where students without access to computers can practice the Computer Based Test (CBT) format for free. This initiative is expected to benefit over 2 lakh students from economically weaker sections. As the countdown to the 2027 engineering entrance season begins, students are encouraged to monitor the official portal, jeemain.nta.nic.in, for the detailed brochure and information bulletin which is expected to be uploaded by late October.
