The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, the organizing body for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026, declared the results early this morning on the official portal. This year, approximately 1.95 lakh candidates appeared for the rigorous two-paper examination held on May 24, 2026. According to official data, the qualifying criteria saw a marginal increase due to the overall performance of the cohort, with the aggregate cutoff for the Common Rank List (CRL) settling at 28.5%. The IIT Delhi zone has once again proven its academic prowess, with 34 students featuring in the top 100 ranks, followed closely by the IIT Bombay and IIT Madras zones.

Aditya Vardhan from Hyderabad has emerged as the All India Rank (AIR) 1, scoring a record-breaking 342 out of 360 marks. In the female category, Meera Deshmukh from the Mumbai zone secured AIR 12, making her the top-ranked female candidate this year. Speaking to the press, the Director of IIT Kanpur, Dr. Abhay Karandikar, noted that the examination process was entirely seamless and highlighted the increasing interest in newer branches such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. 'We have observed a trend where students are not just looking at the 'Big Three' branches anymore; there is a genuine curiosity for interdisciplinary engineering,' he remarked.

With the results now out, the focus shifts immediately to the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026 counselling process. Registration for JoSAA is scheduled to begin on June 26, 2026. Candidates will be required to fill in their choices of branches and institutes in decreasing order of preference. Experts suggest that students should research the 'Seat Matrix' carefully, as several IITs have added new undergraduate seats this year to accommodate the growing demand. The first round of seat allotment is expected to be announced on July 4, 2026.

Students are advised to keep their documents ready for the online reporting phase, which includes the Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, JEE Advanced admit card, and category certificates if applicable. The counselling will span six rounds, concluding in the first week of August. For those who did not qualify, various other premier institutes like the IIITs and NITs will begin their CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) rounds shortly after the JoSAA main rounds. The competition remains fierce, but the expansion of seats in newer IITs like Dharwad and Palakkad provides more opportunities for aspirants than in previous decades.
