JEE Advanced 2026: IIT Kanpur to Open Registration Portal on April 25; Check Eligibility Here
To be eligible for the JEE Advanced, candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE (Main) 2026. The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these five categories, a 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates. Candidates must also satisfy the age limit criteria, which generally requires them to have been born on or after October 1, 2001, with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
IIT Kanpur has also clarified the document requirements for the registration process. Students will need their Class 10 and Class 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and a valid identity proof. The registration fee has seen a marginal increase this year, with Indian female candidates and SC/ST/PwD candidates required to pay INR 1,600, while all other candidates must pay INR 3,200. The payment window will close on May 5, 2026. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 24, 2026, in two shifts: Paper 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Paper 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
Academic experts suggest that this year's paper pattern might place a higher emphasis on multi-conceptual physics problems and organic chemistry synthesis. Dr. Rajesh Khanna, a leading educationist, noted that since IIT Kanpur is setting the paper, students should revisit previous years' papers from 2015 and 2007 for a better understanding of the institute's questioning style. The institute has also introduced a new digital interface for the Computer Based Test (CBT) to minimize technical glitches that were reported in some centers during previous years.
As the countdown begins, students are advised to focus on mock tests and thorough revision of the NCERT and advanced reference books. The admit cards are expected to be available for download from May 18. Candidates should ensure that all details on their admit card match their registration data to avoid last-minute hassles at the exam centers. For further updates, students are encouraged to keep a close watch on the official JEE Advanced website.
