CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Post-Result Counseling and Verification Process Begins
According to the official notification, the verification of marks portal will remain active until May 22. Students are required to pay a fee of INR 500 per subject. If a change in marks is discovered during this phase, the student will be notified, and they will then be eligible to apply for a photocopy of their answer sheet. 'The process is entirely digital to ensure transparency and speed,' said Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Controller of Examinations. 'We want to ensure that every student feels the assessment was fair and rigorous.'
Beyond the technicalities of marks, the CBSE has also scaled up its psychological counseling services. The 'Tele-Counseling' helpline has seen a surge in calls since the results were announced. Professional counselors and principals are available to guide students through the stress of college admissions and help those who may be disappointed with their grades. The board has also clarified that the 'Supplementary Exams' (formerly known as Compartment Exams) are scheduled to begin on July 15, 2026, allowing students who failed in one or two subjects a chance to improve their performance within the same academic year.
In a shift from traditional practices, the CBSE 2026 results did not include a merit list to avoid 'unhealthy competition.' Instead, the board has awarded merit certificates to the top 0.1% of students in each subject. Schools across Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have reported high numbers of students scoring above 95%, which is expected to drive up cutoffs for popular undergraduate courses at Delhi University and other central institutions.
Parents and students are advised to monitor the official CBSE website (cbse.gov.in) for updates regarding the specific dates for the second and third stages of the re-evaluation process. It is important to note that a decrease in marks can also occur during re-evaluation, and the final marks, whether higher or lower, will be considered binding. Students applying for foreign universities are given priority in the processing of these requests to meet international admission deadlines.
